2019 1oz Britannia Gold Coin The 2019 1 Troy Ounce Gold Britannia coin is the leading bullion coin of the UK and is minted by The Royal Mint at Llantrisant in South Wales. Britannia coins have been minted since 1987, originally in 22 carat .9167 fineness and subsequently in 24 carat .9999 fineness since 2013. The reverse of the 2019 coin bears the iconic Philip Nathan image of Britannia on a sunburst background together with the coin’s weight and fineness. The obverse is decorated with the Jody Clark portrait of H M Queen Elizabeth II on a guilloche design background and includes the monetary value of 100 Pounds. The variations between the backgrounds of the obverse and reverse have been introduced as security measures. This coin is legal tender in the UK. Whilst these are bullion coins, they are often bought as collectibles in addition to being investment pieces.
